  • canned cherry pie filling – Use one or two cans. I used one, but if you really like to go heavy on the fruit, then you can easily use two cans
  • Butter for greasing
  • Quick Oats – I say quick oats because I usually use them. This particular time, I only had steel-cut oats. Any oats will do for this recipe.
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Brown Sugar
  • Baking Powder
  • Salt – Table salt
  • Unsalted Butter – Melted

Equipment Needed

Large Skillet – I like to use a large iron skillet

How to Make Cherry Crisp

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Farhenheit

Rub butter onto the skillet to grease it.

Spread the pie filling

Mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and melted butter in a medium bowl.

Spoon or sprinkle the oat mixture over the pie filling

Bake for 15-20 minutes

Suggested Toppings

Homemade Whipped Cream – Use an electric mixer to whip a small container of heavy cream with small amount of powdered sugar and a dash of vanilla extract

The recipe calls of quick oats, but I have used all types of oats in crisp recipes from old-fashioned to steel-cut oats. The only difference will be the texture and tenderness of the oats.

You can make this ahead and freeze for up to two months or refrigerate for about one week.

  • 20 oz. cherry pie filling add another can for a thicker filling
  • 1 tbsp. butter unsalted – cold or room temperature
  • ½ cup quick oats
  • ½ cup flour all-purpose
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 5 tbsp. butter unsalted – melted

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Rub cold butter directly onto skillet or put softened butter on a paper towel and use it to grease the skillet by rubbing it all around
  • Spread the cherry pie filling in the skillet
  • In a medium bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and melted butter
  • Sprinkle the oats mixture onto the pie filling
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes
