Berry Cobbler

This mixed berry cobbler is just like mom used to make. It is an old recipe that is tried and true and can be made with any berry you prefer. You can use this as a basic cobbler recipe and change it to fit what berries are in season or use frozen mixed berries for a mixed berry cobbler with frozen berries.

If you are looking for fruit filled desserts then you might like my recipe for Pumpkin Dump Cake that tastes just like Pumpkin Pie, Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake, or Apple Dumplings made with Sprite.

Ingredients

  • butter – you’ll want to use unsalted butter for this recipe
  • flour – all-purpose flour is best for this mixed berry cobbler
  • sugar – use granulated sugar. It will be divided. Some of it will be used to make a syrup with the frozen berries and some will go into the dry ingredients for the batter
  • milk – I usually have 2% on hand, but you can also use whole. Skim might water it down too much
  • salt – table salt is perfect for this recipe
  • baking powder – this is going to be used to make the batter rise
  • fruit – I used frozen mixed berries, but you could easily use fresh berries in their place. Just use the same exact measurement to do an equal swap
  • cornstarch – cornstarch is used to thicken the syrup

Equipment You’ll Need

  • You’ll want a 9×13 deep baking pan for this cobbler recipe
  • Mixing bowls – you’ll only need one large bowl which means less mess to clean up
  • Mixing utensils and utensils for spreading

Expert Tips

You won’t have a thick syrup, but the liquid will thicken up a bit. Don’t worry, it will thicken up more during the baking process

Recipe Variations

You can use fresh fruit – just use the same exact measurement of fresh fruit in place of frozen fruit and follow recipe directions

You can use a pie filling in place of mixed fruit, but you will need to omit the cornstarch and sugar that is mixed with fruit. You will not need to heat the fruit filling. Just pour the filling directly onto the batter
