FAQs

Make-Ahead and Storage:

Can I make Cresent Roll Apple Dumplings ahead of time?

Yes. You can partially make this recipe a few days in advance by rolling apples in triangle crescent dough and placing them onto a buttered baking dish. Cover the dish and store it in the fridge. About 45 minutes to an hour before you are ready to serve, pour caramel sauce and Sprite and bake.

Storing Leftovers: Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator

Reheating Leftovers: Reheat leftovers either on a plate in the microwave until heated through or the best method – in the oven covered with foil at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes

What are the Best Apples used in Baking Pies, and Apple Dumplings?

  • Granny Smith
  • Honeycrisp
  • Jonagold

Tips and Tricks:

  • Be sure to only pour the caramel sauce directly onto the dumplings. The Sprite should go on the bottom of the baking pan in between the dumplings
  • for a shortcut method – Use a device that quickly cores and slices the apples into wedges
  • serve apple dumplings with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Are you ready to make this delicious dessert? Let’s make sure you have everything you’ll need…

Ingredients:

  • Granny Smith apples – these are my preferred apples for this recipe. They bake up tender and hold their texture. Their tart flavor lends well to this dessert
  • refrigerated crescent roll dough triangles – You can get original or flaky
  • brown sugar – I used light brown sugar, but if you only have dark – that is fine too
  • vanilla extract – I always use pure vanilla extract,  but if all you have is imitation, that is perfectly fine
  • Sprite – or a similar soda like 7Up, generic lemon-lime soda, or Mountain Dew

How do you make Apple Dumplings?

  1. preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9×11 baking pan
  2. peel, core, and slice apples into 8 equal apple wedges
  3. unroll your crescent dough triangles
  4. place an apple slice onto the bottom (wider) portion of the triangle and roll it up
  5. set it seam side down onto the baking dish
  6. repeat until you have 2 dozen
  7. in a small saucepan, melt butter
  8. add brown sugar and extract – mix in
  9. pour over crescent rolls
  10. now, pour soda in between crescent rolls
  11. bake
  12. serve warm

Those are great substitutions! Thank you for letting me know about them. I will add them as ideas for people that need to be careful with their sugar for health reasons.
