Mom’s Salisbury Steak Recipe {with Mushroom Gravy}

Description

A delicious classic recipe for Salisbury Steak – Good homecooked comfort food


Ingredients

Units Scale

1 lb. of ground beef
1/3 cup of plain bread crumbs
1/2 tsp. of salt
1/2 tsp. of ground pepper
1/2 tsp. of garlic powder
1/2 tsp. of onion powder
1/2 tsp. of mustard powder
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 large onion sliced
1 (6 oz.) can of sliced mushrooms – drained
2 cups of beef broth
2 Tbsp. of cold water
2 tsp. of cornstarch


Instructions

  1. Mix beef, bread crumbs, spices, egg, and Worcestershire sauce
  2. shape into 4 patties
  3. In a large skillet, cook patties on medium heat – about 5 minutes on each side
  4. Drain – if necessary
  5. Add onion, mushrooms, and broth to the meat
  6. Heat to boiling
  7. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and simmer for 1o minutes
  8. Add water mixed with cornstarch and cook until the gravy thickens

Notes

Make-Ahead and Storage:

This recipe can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Cooked beef can be kept in the fridge, covered for 3-4 days

Storing:

Salisbury steak can be easily stored and covered in a baking dish in the refrigerator. Cover it with aluminum foil for a quick transfer to the oven

How Do I Reheat Salisbury Steak?

Reheating: When you are ready to serve this dish, bake in a baking dish covered with aluminum foil in the oven set to 325 degrees for about 30- 40 minutes. Check to see everything is heated through before serving

Can I Freeze Salisbury Steak?

Yes! Salisbury steak is a great dish for freezing. It can be frozen with gravy and all for up to 3 months.

Freezing: When you are done cooking your steak, let it cool completely and transfer it to an aluminum baking pan double wrapped with foil over the top.

Cooking from frozen beef patties: You’ll want to increase your cooking time to about 60 minutes and set the temperature of the oven to 325
