Ingredients
  

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 16 oz. crescent roll dough (2 cans)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter - 1 whole stick
  • 1&1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Sprite or other similar soda

Instructions
 

  • preheat your oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9x11 baking dish
  • peel, core, and slice apples into 8 equal wedges
  • unroll crescent dough and place an apple slice near the bottom (wide) section
  • roll the crescent dough around the apple slice and place seam side down onto the buttered baking dish
  • repeat with the rest of the apples and triangle dough pieces
  • in a small saucepan, heat the butter until melted
  • add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved
  • Add vanilla extract and stir in
  • pour sauce over crescent rolls - covering every part of them
  • pour the Sprite in between rolls - careful to avoid the dough
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes

Can I make Cresent Roll Apple Dumplings ahead of time?

Yes. You can partially make this recipe a few days in advance by rolling apples in triangle crescent dough and placing them onto a buttered baking dish. Cover the dish and store it in the fridge. About 45 minutes to an hour before you are ready to serve, pour caramel sauce and Sprite and bake.
Storing Leftovers: Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator
Reheating Leftovers: Reheat leftovers either on a plate in the microwave until heated through or the best method - in the oven covered with foil at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes

Tips and Tricks:

  • Be sure to only pour the caramel sauce directly onto the dumplings. The Sprite should go on the bottom of the baking pan in between the dumplings

  • serve apple dumplings with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream
